Doc learned that Google has delisted a lot of websites that do not comply with it's guidelines. Google does not delist and tell, but it is fairly easy to test a website to see if it is included in Google's index. If it is not included, it has probably been delisted. Google refers you to the reasons for delisting by referring to you to its Guidelines. Doc learned that many of the professionals he had received advice from were not particularly knowledgeable about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) with Google, or Google delisting. The best, and most accessible, resources are those on the internet. No one is going to spoon feed you; you simply have to go out on the internet and find the information. He also found that the real experts with Google SEO and delisting simply were too expensive to hire to do the work. It was discovered that Google will sometimes warn a website prior to delisting, especially newer websites being managed by amateurs. In Doc's case, Google probably considered the life of the website and figured the webmaster should know better. Google may have also checked the website and found Doc had a Ph.D. and may have concluded that the Ph.D. was in something related to computers and the internet. Google does not give warnings to the professionals, since they should know better. It was also discovered that other search engines also delist websites. However, Google seems to have the highest standards, and, therefore, probably delists more websites than the other search engines. Doc determined that if he complied with Google's Guidelines, he would be in compliance with the other searchg engines' standards. He also discovered that another website of his, which he purchased in the Fall of 2005, had apparently also been delisted by Google prior to his acquisition of it, which led to a second successful Google reinclusion request. Doc found that Google also makes mistakes from time to time. However, when the mistake is documented adequately, Google will correct its mistakes. By learning more about Google, he came to respect Google much more than he would have otherwise. In addition, Doc discovered that Google is the largest search engine on the internet. Google dominates 61% of the search engine market, and that market dominance will probably continue to increase over time. Ironically, market share increased from 59% to 61% just from the inception of this website. To run a website without the benefit of Google's search engine simply means a whole lot of work with a much lower return on investment. |
